Floki Hatchet
“Some men lust for women and others lust for gold, but I only lust to please the gods.”
This hatchet was designed with inspiration from the axe carried by Floki in the TV series Vikings. Made from hardened, sharpened high carbon steel, this functional head has a rustic forge blackened finished with a fine polished edge. The haft is made from English ash that is burnt black and leather wrapped in a black grip.
Burning hafts black is an old blacksmiths trick to smooth the handle and prevent getting blisters whilst they hammer all day. It wraps the wood in a layer of carbon that's highly resistant to mould, insects, water and even fire. It also hardens the wood, making it less likely to crack or splinter. This process is called "Charring" - burning and rubbing in oil whilst the wood is still hot/warm.
